Digital Motion X-Ray

Digital Motion X-ray or DMX is simply the latest evolution of x-ray that allows the clinician to take x-rays while the patient moves in a standing, weight-bearing position. Computer generated images allow for incredibly low exposure levels. We are told that when the state inspectors check out the units, their instruments can't even pick up a reading.

DMX evaluates the bones in motion, allowing us to detect which specific ligaments have been injured. If you hurt more when you move, then you should be diagnosed while you move.
Until now, it has been extremely difficult for doctors to diagnose painful ligamentous injuries that are commonly the cause of headaches and neck pain. Standard x-ray, MRI, and CT do not show these types of injuries.

Digital Motion X-ray is designed to evaluate ligamentous injuries while the patient moves, unlike the cervical MRI which is designed to evaluate disk injuries while lying down and not moving. The symptoms of a cervical disk injury are usually pain, numbness, or tingling in the arms and hands.

Most people don't realize that the upper 30% of the cervical spine and posterior aspect (back side) of the cervical spine contain no disks, just ligaments. Headaches and posterior neck pain are commonly caused by stretched ligament injuries, which cannot be detected by MRI. So if you are having continued neck and head symptoms following an auto accident, this diagnostic procedure can objectively show soft tissue damage that may have occurred.

It is important to know that there are two different types of painful ligamentous injuries. One is called a complete failure, or "tear", and the other is a sub-failure, which is a stretching of the ligament. Loose ligaments can only be demonstrated through a motion imaging procedure. DMX can reveal these sub-failure ligamentous injuries, allowing the doctor to specifically determine which ligaments are injured.

It is vital to accurately diagnose the cause of low back pain. You may have 3 "problems" in your spine, but the question is, "Which one is causing my symptoms?" DMX is an excellent diagnostic tool in, ruling out ligaments as sources of pain.
